Learning to play the keyboard is a slightly different technique to learning the piano and the left hand tends to be a little more focused on chords (groups of notes played together)

 

Although Keyboards come in all shapes and sizes (and prices!) and range from a fairly simple instrument to a very comprehensive one (sometimes called a Workstation), the basic technique applies to all of them - rather like driving different cars! This means you can transfer your skills if you change instrument or decide to upgrade to a newer or more complex keyboard.

As in the case of learning the piano, there is no need to purchase an expensive instrument to learn on. You can simply 'grow' into a more advanced instrument as and when you feel you want to - if at all!
